Changeling is The Word of the Day (Because this should be semi-educational)

There's a new movie coming out featuring Angelina Jolie, and it's called Changeling.  My sister asked me what a changeling was.  "I think it is something about birds," I told her.  I really had no idea.  Then I said, "Wait, I think I'm thinking of fledgling."  So neither of us knew what it meant, thus it becomes CP's Word of the Day.

Changeling is a noun that is pronounced [cheynj-ling].  According to Dictionary.com, the definitions are:

1.	a child surreptitiously or unintentionally substituted for another.

2.	(in folklore) an ugly, stupid, or strange child left by fairies in place of a pretty, charming child.

3.	Philately. a postage stamp that, by accident or intention, has been chemically changed in color.

4.	Archaic. a. a renegade or turncoat. b. an imbecile.

Wow, nothing to do with birds there.  But this is sad.  The poor ugly child who gets replaced!  Where do they find this unfortunate kid?  I'm sure he/she would have a complex for life!  And the poor parents who have to pretend to like him/her forever.  What do they do with the pretty one?  It just seems like a bad situation.

I also want to note that before the definition there was a line that LOOKED like a definition that said, "A True Story.  Staring Angelina Jolie.  Coming to to Theaters Oct. 24."  I was like, you've got to be kidding me.  They added that to the definition?!  Then I noticed a bit that said "sponsored link" in the corner of that part.  Oh those crazy advertisers!  What WILL they come up with next?!

Finally, I have used the WOTD in a sentence:  "Looks like somebody took the inspiring and beautiful Angela and replaced her with their ugly, dumpy changeling!  I want Angela back!"

Copacetic is The Word of the Day (Because this should be semi-educational)

Copacetic is an amazing word.  For one, it can be spelled two ways- copaSetic OR copaCetic.  It's an adjective!  You say it like this: koh-puh-set-ik, -see-tik.  Here's the definition:

 Copacetic: adj. Very satisfactory or acceptable; fine

Now I'll use it in a sentence:

Ex: My new tattoo of dolphins circling my ankle is copacetic. 

There is a lot of speculation where this terrific word originated.  Some people say it came from astronauts.  Some say jazz musicians started it.  Some think Bill "Bojangles" Robinson, the famous tap dancer, started the word!  Who knows?!  Oh well, let's just enjoy the word!

Butty is The Word of the Day (Because this should be semi-educational)

Butty is an excellent word.  Once you know what this word means, you'll use it all the time.  TRUST ME!  It's fun.

Butty is a noun.  It can mean one of two things:
1.  A slice of bread and butter.
2.  A sandwich.

Example: I really like a lot of mayo slathered on my butty!

Using this word can generate some odd looks from bystanders.  Just roll your eyes at them and know that their vocabulary is obviously not as sophisticated as yours.    

Coif is the Word of the Day (Because this should be semi-educational)

Coif sounds silly.  It's pronounced [kwahf].  You can use it as another word for hairdo or hairstyle.  There are a bunch of meanings for the word, but that is the one that would probably come up the most.

Here is the technical definition:

noun
1.	the arrangement of the hair (especially a woman's hair) [syn: hairdo]

And HERE is an example that is something like what I heard on What Not to Wear:  "And now Nick Arrojo will try to tame Millie's wild and crazy coif."

Curmudgeon is The Word of The Day (because this should be semi-educational)

Jen taught me this word.  She is really great at using it!

The word is curmudgeon.  Pronounced ker-muhj-uhn, this word means "a bad-tempered, difficult, cantankerous person."

Example from Jen:  "Lo on The Hills is kind of a curmudgeon." (I agree)
